Helmar T206 Series – Art Nehf (New York Nationals)
Helmar’s T206 rendering of Art Nehf captures the left-hander in mid-stride, his expression
calm yet determined, framed against a glowing sky of warm orange and green. Sanjay
Verma’s gouache painting lends the figure both immediacy and poise, the soft gradations of
color enhancing the crisp blue pinstripes of Nehf’s New York Nationals uniform. The
composition evokes the grace of a pitcher who combined endurance with control—an anchor
of the Giants’ staff during their dominant early-1920s seasons.

A two-time World Series champion under John McGraw, Nehf was known for his steady
temperament and command under pressure. Between 1917 and 1929, he recorded over 184
career wins, including key postseason victories that secured the Giants’ 1921 and 1922 titles.
