Earl Whitehill

Biography

The short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: Even though he’s a slight 5 foot, 9 inches and 174 pounds, Earl is known as one of the meanest pitchers in the big leagues. Batters had better not dig in against Earl as he makes it clear that he owns the plate. Every year he is in the top of the list for batters hit. Being a bit ornery pays off for this Cedar Rapids native. He’s turned in some fine win-loss records for weak Tiger teams. Earl is always good for more wins than losses, usually ending up with around 16 victories per annum. He can help out by pitching in relief when needed, usually saving a few games each year for Detroit.
