Jo-Jo White

Biography

The short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: This sparkplug centerfielder is called “Jo-Jo” because that is how he pronounces his home state, Georgia. The 1934 season was Jo-Jo’s third in the big leagues, all of them being with the Tigers. In 115 games he batted a strong .313, helping Detroit win the pennant. He has a good eye, too, walking 69 times last year and having an on base average of .419. A big threat on the basepaths, he stole 28 bases and scored 97 times. When you consider that he had 120 hits, it shows that Jo-Jo almost always scores once he gets on base with a hit.
