Sam West

Biography

A short bio from the Boston Garter Game of the Century card back: The lone representative of the Browns among the American “all stars” will be 5’11”, 165 lb. Sam West. The left-handed hitting and throwing fly hawk was traded to St. Louis last December after spending the previous 6 seasons in Washington. Tutored on defense by fellow Texan Tris Speaker, West made only one error in 125 games during his rookie year for a record-setting fielding rate of .996. Little Sam is capable of good stick work too. He batted .328 in 1930 and .333 in ’31 and earlier this season he collected 8 consecutive base knocks.
