Skeeter Webb

Biography

The short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: One surefire way to advance your career is to marry the boss’ daughter. That’s what “Skeeter” did, marrying Detroit manager Steve O’Neill’s girl. Fans and players alike are grumbling, blaming the familial relationship on the fact that light-hitting “Skeeter” was the starting shortstop for all 7 games of the 1945 World Series. Nevertheless, the commitment worked, as Detroit bested Chicago, 4 games to 3, leaving the Cubs eager for a rematch. Skeeter’s best year was 1939, when he hit .264 with Cleveland. The Mississippi native is 5’9”, 150 pounds.
