Lonnie Warneke

Biography

A short bio from the Boston Garter Game of the Century card back: Supposedly, the Cubs sensational young right-handed pitcher Lon Warneke developed his arm by throwing rocks at squirrels in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains. True or not, one thing is certain: the 24-year-old has superb control over his blazing fastball which he keeps right at the batters’ knees. Last year in his first full campaign Lon mowed down the competition, picking up a league-leading 22 wins against only 6 losses while also leading the league in ERA with a crack figure of 2.37. Young as Warneke is, NL dugout leader John McGraw will not hesitate to use the fearless red-headed country lad from Mt. Ida, Arkansas, against the AL’s best in the July 6 World Fair’s exhibition.
