Bobby Thomson

Biography

From the "This Great Game" card back: The greatest hero in New York Giants history was born in Scotland. When he was three, little Bobby entered into the U.S. at Ellis Island, and his future and that of his family were in doubt. But Thomson sprouted to become an excellent athlete, and the Giants signed him. After a detour in World War II, Bobby earned his way onto the Giants roster and found himself in the right place at the perfect time on October 3, 1951, when he hit the “Shot Heard ‘Round the World” to win the pennant. Bobby did a lot of fine things in his career after that, but his four-bagger to sink the Dodgers at the Polo Grounds was always his calling card.
