Ernie Shore

Biography

The short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: The Red Sox picked a winner when they grabbed this 6’4”, 220 pound righthander from the Greensboro Patriots at the end of 1913. With Boston last year, 1914, he finished 10-5. His fastball sizzles and it is said that he is as fast as Walter Johnson. His breaking ball is sharp and Shore credits his long fingers for the extra snap on his pitches. Born March 24, 1891, in East Bend, North Carolina, he comes from farming stock. First made a name for himself at Guilford College in Greensboro. Came to the Sox with George Ruth and Ben Eagan via Baltimore’s Orioles.
