Bobby Shantz

Biography

From the "This Great Game" card back: It takes someone with a lot of talent and movement on their pitches to win 24 games for a fourth-place team, but that’s what Bobby did in ‘52 for the Athletics. That he only stands a shade over 5-foot-6 makes it all the more remarkable. His 24 wins and 27 complete games for the A's led to the little lefty winning the 1952 Most Valuable Player Award in the American League. The future is very bright for this southpaw hurler, even if he will have to stand on tippy toes to see it.
