Duke SNIDER (HOF)

Biography

A short bio from the Helmar “This Great Game” card back: Few players have had a love affair with a ballpark like that between Edwin “Duke” Snider and Ebbets Field. The strong, lefthanded slugger frequently sends the baseball soaring over the right field wall, which delights the rooters in Flatbush. Snider was a four-sport star in high school in southern California, starring in baseball, basketball, football, and track & field. Duke missed two years of ball-playing when he served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He has movie star good looks and the batting stats to back up his lofty status among the best players in the game.
