Biography

The short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: The brewery magnate bought the team, then known as the Highlanders, with partner Tillinghast L'Hommedieu Huston, in 1915. Mr. Ruppert and Mr. Huston financed the construction of the Yankees’ new home, the first three-tiered stadium in America. Mr. Ruppert bought Mr. Huston’s portion of the team in 1923.Mr. Ruppert has signed the contracts of a powerhouse team, featuring “Babe” Ruth, “Lou” Gehrig, Earle Combs, Herb Pennock, and Waite Hoyt. The Yankees have won 6 pennants and 3 World Series this decade, and look forward to more glory in the coming years. Mr. Ruppert was an active member of the National Guard.
