Preacher Roe

Biography

From the "This Great Game" card back: Somehow both the Cardinals and Pirates let Preacher slip through their fingers, and now he twirls from the mound for the Dodgers. In 1951 he garnered 22 victories against only three defeats, mostly on account of his wet and wobbly spitball. His proudest moment (and most courageous) came in Game Two of the’49 World Series, when Roe pitched a 1-0 gem over the Yankees with a broken finger on his pitching hand.
