Del Rice

Biography

From the "This Great Game" card back: Sturdy catcher Del Rice has future big league manager splattered all over him, but he’s not done squatting behind the dish just yet. He’s getting more rugged with age: in 1952 and 1953 he caught 147 and 135 games. He could be forgiven if his knees and lower back were creaking a bit by now. Rice tosses out more than 40 percent of would-be base stealers, and his pitching staff loves throwing to his steady hands.
