Biography

The short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: Here are the two spark plugs of the New York Yankees and the Brooklyn Dodgers. “Scooter” Rizzuto sweeps up grounders at shortstop for the “Bronx Bombers,” and “Pee Wee” Reese is his counterpart for “The Bums.” “Scooter” won the American League MVP in 1950, hitting .324, and leading the league in sacrifice bunts. “Pee Wee” has been an All-Star the last 8 seasons he’s played. From ’43 to ’45 they played on the same Navy team, taking turns at second base and shortstop. They were managed by former Yankee catcher Bill Dickey.
