Podres, Johnny

Biography

From the "This Great Game" card back: There are heroes and then there are folk heroes, and quite a difference there is between the two. Padres rose to mythic folk hero status when he authored a beautiful 2-0 gem over the Damn Yankees to win Game Seven of the 1955 World Series. That’s a remarkable feat, but even more remarkable when it is pitched for Brooklyn. Thanks to John, the Dodgers finally won their first World Series title that afternoon at Yankee Stadium, a victory that cured a headache felt throughout Flatbush.
