Vada Pinson

Biography

From the "This Great Game" card back: When he was a kid, Vada wanted to be a jazz musician. With his deft paths to the ball in the outfield and his graceful manner on the base paths, in a way the Cincinnati star is still a musician. In 1959 he was an All-Star in his first full season for the Reds, batting .316 with 205 hits, 47 doubles, 131 runs, 20 homers, and 21 stolen bases. With numbers like that, Pinson will make a name for himself in the National League quickly, where he is teammates with Frank Robinson, who was once his outfield mate in high school in northern California.
