Pierce, Billy

Biography

From the "This Great Game" card back: How good do you have to be to have two of baseball’s greatest legends gush over your pitching, and choose two different pitches while doing it? Joe DiMaggio said of Pierce: “That little so-and-so is a marvel. So little, and all that speed. And I mean speed!” Later, after he had won 20 games a few times in the league, Ted Williams opined, “He has the best curveball I ever faced.” Pierce was small but had the heart of a giant, and he gathered his many pitching weapons to win 211 games.
