Newcombe, Don

From the "This Great Game" card back: Never happy to be removed from a game, Newk was a competitor, and an excellent hitter. One season, Newcombe hit .359 with seven home runs. He hit 15 home runs in his career, and three times he hit two in a game. He missed two seasons while serving in the Korean War and it took him a year to recover his form after he came back. With better fortune and timing, Newcombe could have been one of the best pitchers in history.
