Biography

The short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: Here’s two of the Jungle crew that Detroit simply can’t do without. “Prince Hal” Newhouser is nine years junior to “Hammerin’ Hank” Greenberg but they share the same enthusiasm for playing winning ball. And win they do: Hank has played in four World Series for the Tigers and Hal, just 24 years old, has played in one. The Tigers know a keeper when they see one, and they grabbed Hal for the big club back in 1939, when he was just 18. He had such great stuff that by age 23, in 1944, he won 29 games to lead the big leagues! He won 25 this past season and expects to have a really big year in 1946.
