Martin, Billy

Biography

From the "This Great Game" card back: Describe Billy Martin in one word? Scrappy does fine. The thin infielder with a chip on his shoulder proved his worth time and again for his teams, providing a tenacious appetite for competition. But if Billy wasn’t on the winning side, it was a tough time in the clubhouse. Luckily, Martin and his pals Mickey Mantle and Whitey Ford won far more than they lost. The famous trio helped the Yanks triumph in four Fall Classic between 1951 and 1956. Billy hit a cool .333 with five homers in 29 Series games.
