Marty Marion

Biography

The short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: The unusually long arms of “The Octopus” grab grounders and liners all over the left side of the infield. In 1942, “Slats” led the league with 38 doubles. He hits in the .270-.280 range, knocks in about 55 runs a year, and walks about the same amount as striking out. Somewhat ho-hum at bat, St. Louis fans are ecstatic at his fielding exploits. There is, perhaps, no better shortstop in baseball. This South Carolinian bats and throws from the right side, is 6’2” and 169 pounds.
