Bill MAZEROSKI

Biography

A short bio from the Helmar “This Great Game” card back: Teammates call him “No Touch” because Mazeroski gets rid of the baseball so quickly on the pivot when turning the double play. In the off-season, Mazeroski plays handball in order to keep the weight off. The quick-paced game also helps keep his hands lightning quick. Bill’s father was a coal miner, but he was also a good ballplayer, earning a tryout with the Cleveland Indians. The older Maz never saw his big league dreams come true, but he was there when Bill was signed by the Pirates out of high school, originally as a shortstop.
