Eddie MATHEWS

Biography

A short bio from the Helmar “This Great Game” card back: The last time a lefthanded swing prompted so much praise, it was when people first saw Ted Williams as a rookie in the 1939. Mathews has been compared Frank “Home Run” Baker, a tall, lefthanded swinger who blasted the baseball for Connie Mack’s Athletics back when Teddy Roosevelt was in the White House. Eddie may have more power than any third baseman in history, and his play in the field is a benefit to the Braves as well. One of the most popular men on the team, Mathews is destined for home run accolades.
