Heinie MANUSH (HOF)

Biography

The short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: Outfielder “Heinie” has garnered fewer hosannas than teammates “Ty” Cobb and Harry Heilmann, but “Heinie” is an outstanding player for the Bengals. In 1923, his first year with the team, Heinie batted .334. In ’26, he replaced aging Cobb in centerfield, and thrived. He vied with Babe Ruth, teammates Heilmann and Bob Fothergill, going 6-for9 in a doubleheader on the final day of the season to earn the batting crown with a .378 average. Heinie likes to put the ball in play, walking and striking out at a low rate.
