Loes, Billy

Biography

From the "This Great Game" card back: Keep the ball low in the strike zone and good things will happen. That was the philosophy for Billy Loes, who achieved his dream of playing for his hometown team. Well, the Dodgers weren’t exactly Loes' hometown team, they were his neighborhood team: Billy grew up only a few blocks from Ebbets Field. The tall, skinny hurler never outgrew his teenage appearance, but he matured into a fine pitcher who won 50 games for the Dodgers in four full seasons in a Brooklyn uniform.
