Chuck KLEIN (HOF)

Biography

A short bio from the Boston Garter Game of the Century card back: Phillies fans shudder to think where their team would be without their right fielder Chuck Klein, who has been a batting terror since his mid-season debut in 1928. In his first 4 full seasons Klein has led the NL in homers and runs scored 3 ties, in slugging percentage twice, and in hits, doubles, runs batted in, and stolen bases once. Best year so far was 1930 when he batted .386 with 40 HRs, 59 doubles, and 170 runs batted in. Set major league records that year by crossing plate 158 times and compiling 44 assists in the outfield. The left-handed slugger from Indy was the NL’s leading vote getter for the July 6 Game of the Century.
