George KELL (HOF)

Biography

A short bio from the Helmar “This Great Game” card back: Weighed only 130 pounds when he was 18 and started his professional career. Skinny George hit only .160 that first season but he’s added pounds and points to his batting average. Kell credits a tip from teammate Jo-Jo White for helping improve his play at third base. White suggested Kell take a step in as the pitch is being delivered so he will not be caught flat-footed. George is the pride of Swifton, a tiny 800-person town in Arkansas situated between Little Rock and Memphis. Younger brother Everett, nicknamed “Skeeter”, has also made his way to the big leagues.
