Billy Jurges

Biography

The short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: Here’s a scrappy infielder that just won’t give up on a ground ball. That gives him excellent range and fans love the extra effort. “Billy” was born May 9, 1908, in the Bronx. By age 19 he was a professional ballplayer with the Manchester Blue Sox. It would be the 1931 season before he would make the big leagues. To be honest, he’s just a .250 hitter but his real value to Chicago is as a fielder and team leader. Some say that he makes the Cubs finish a full place higher then they would otherwise.
