Willie Jones

Biography

From the "This Great Game" card back: Hailing from South Carolina, Jones is a good ol' country boy with a southern accent as thick as molasses, as they say. With broad shoulders and a rifle for a throwing arm, Jones makes for a pretty sight at the hot corner for the Fightin' Phils, who aim to challenge the Dodgers and Giants in the NL pennant chase. In 1950, “Puddin’ Head” smacked 25 homers to help Philadelphia to their first flag in 35 years.
