The short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: In 1948 Boston center fielder Holmes hit over .300 for 5th year in a row. Lefty-swinging leadoff man helped lead Braves to pennant last year with .325 mark. Best year was 1945 when he led NL in hits (224) and HR (28) and batted .352. Set NL record for hitting in 37 straight games. Finished 2nd in MVP voting behind Cubs’ Cavarretta. Before coming to Boston was NY Yankee property. Stuck behind DiMaggio, Henrich, and Keller, Tommy spent 3 years with the Newark Bears.
