Oral Hildebrand

Biography

A short bio from the Boston Garter Game of the Century card back: Last year as a rookie Oral started 15 games for the Indians, compiling an 8-6 record and ERA of 3.69. This year he has bolstered the Cleveland rotation, joining Wes Ferrell, Mel Harder, Clint Brown, and Willis Hudlin. Has several shutouts already including one-hitter on April 26. Native of Indianapolis, Hildebrand was one of eight children and the first to graduate high school. Before entering professional baseball he attended Butler University and led the school’s basketball team to the 1929 national collegiate championship. Oral’s big hands and long fingers provide extra snap on his pitches.
