Mel Harder

The short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: At 25 years old, “Chief” Harder is on top of the world. Last year for Cleveland he won 20 games and led the league with six goose eggs. His earned run average of 2.61 was second after the Yank’s Lefty Gomez. Nearly 50,000 fans saw him get the win at the All Star Game on July 2nd. Born in Nebraska, he’s a big farmboy at 6’1” and 190 pounds. He doesn’t overwhelm with the fastball but keeps his head about him and nibbles at the corners.
