Harvey Haddix

Biography

From the "This Great Game" card back: He doesn’t throw hard enough. He doesn’t have the stamina to finish what he starts. Those were the knocks on Haddix, but he’s proving his critics wrong and in 1954 he made his second All-Star team for the Redbirds. As a rookie, Haddix tossed six shutouts and won 20 games for St. Louis, and last season in 1954, he wrangled 18 victories. Only 5’9 and looking more like a bus driver than a big league ace, Haddix relies on a curveball and changeup.
