Charlie GEHRINGER

Biography

A short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: Fellow ballplayers call him “The Mechanical Man.” Never has a ballplayer been so devoid of flair or “color.” He doesn’t say much, doesn’t show much emotion. “Charlie” has, simply, become one of the best second basemen ever. Since 1927, he’s hit better than .298 every year. He led the league in hits with 215 in 1929, and with 214 in ’34. He cracks doubles with the best of them. Charlie is an outstanding second baseman, displaying no flash, while making baseball aficionados nod their heads in appreciation.
