Biography

A short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: Jimmie Foxx joined the Red Sox in 1936 after eleven years and 302 home runs with Philadelphia’s Athletics. In his four years with Boston since, he’s never hit less than 35 round-trippers and that led the entire big leagues! He also hit 50 homers in ‘38 and led the bigs with 175 runs batted in. While that RBI total just beats his 1932 count of 169, with the Sox he hasn’t managed to beat his record of 58 homers (also set in 1932). Joe Cronin is his friend and great Sox shortstop. He came to Boston from Washington a year before Jimmie. You can pretty much count on Joe to bat .300 every year and be boss of the team on the field.
