Jimmy Dykes

Biography

A short bio from the Boston Garter Game of the Century card back: Big names abound on AL squad for the Game of the Century but NLers should not underestimate chatterbox White Stockings third baseman Jimmy Dykes. Dykes used strong arm, solid bat, and versatility to help Connie Mack’s A’s win 3 straight pennants, before depression money woes caused Mack to sell Dykes, Mule Haas, and Al Simmons to Chicago for $150,000, Sept. of last year. Was given Flint Sedan for being A’s team MVP in 1924 when he batted .312. Rare player who has batted better in big leagues than minor leagues.
