Paul Derringer

Biography

A short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: This big, six foot, three inch, 205 pound right hander was new to the league in 1931. It was a great season for the 24 year old as he compiled an 18-8 mark and led the league with a winning percentage of .692. His four shut-outs put National League batters on notice that he is for real. To top it all off, the Cardinals won the World series over the Philadelphia Athletics by a slim margin of 4 to 3. Paul came to the Cards via the minor league Danville Veterans and the Rochester Red Wings. In four minor league seasons he had a record of 65-42, including a 23-11 mark with Rochester in 1930.
