Daffy Dean

A short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: Paul joined the Cards last season at age 21. Remarkably, he won 19 games while helping brother Jerome take the team into the World Series. Five of those wins were by shutouts. He also led the entire major leagues in strikeouts per nine innings pitched. It was in the World Series that “Daffy” really shined. He started game 3 and beat Detroit by a score of 4 to 1, striking out 7 over nine innings. With two days rest he came back on October 8 and threw another complete game victory, this time winning by a score of 4 to 3.
