Bobby DOERR

Biography

From the "This Great Game" card back: When bouncing baby Robert Doerr entered the world late in 1917, his parents made sure to slip “Pershing” in the middle of his name to honor the famed general who was leading the AMerican Expeditionary Forces in Europe. Like “Black Jack,” Doerr grew up to be a leader: in his case as captain of the Red Sox, whom he helped mold into winners with his understated style. In the 1946 World Series, Doerr hit .409 with a home run.
