"General" Al Crowder

Biography

A short bio from the Boston Garter Game of the Century card back: He may not be as fast as Grove or Gomez but the Senators’ Alvin “General” Crowder knows how to flummox batters as well as any mounds man. He won 15 games in a row for Washington last year and won 26 all told to lead the league. He’s on pace to do the same this season. Made stellar .808 percentage (21-5) in 1928 for St. Louis Americans between stints with Nationals. Earned nickname during the Great War, serving in Siberia and the Phillipines. Hails from Winston-Salem, N. C.
