Sherwood Brewer

Biography

A short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: One of the toughest infielders in the Negro Leagues. Sherwood started his career with the Harlem Globetrotters Baseball team in 1946. He proved himself a power-hitter, batting in 17 home runs but batted only .250. He choked up the next season and his batting average improved greatly. After 3 seasons with the Indianapolis Clowns, Brewer came to the Monarchs in 1953 as their regular second baseman. He is 32 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 170 pounds. He bats and throws right-handed. The retiring of manager Buck O’Neil last year has put Sherwood in line to manage the Monarchs for the upcoming season.
