Max Bishop

Biography

A short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: His teammates call him “Camera Eye,” because no other batter is a better judge of the strike zone. Since 1926, Max has walked over 100 times per season. His walks-per-plate-appearance rate is over 20%, which is the best ever in the Majors. Max doesn’t hit for much power, and his lifetime average is in the .270s, though in ’28 he hit .316. With a bit more punch, this second sacker would be an elite player. A native of Waynesboro, PA, Max stands 5’8” and weighs 166 pounds. He throws right, bats and walks from the left side.
