Allen Benson

Biography

A short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: Boy, this big righthander can really sling the horsehide! He’s 6’1” and 185 pounds, born in Hurley, South Dakota on March 28, 1905. He’s always been a hard thrower and is known as “Bullet Ben”. He played three years in the low minors, his best pitching was for the Akron Tyrites in ’28 and ’29. In 1930 he joined the barnstorming House of David team and really blossomed. Pitching every day under ever-changing circumstances has made him fearless. Last year, 1934, he couldn’t resist signing with the Washington Senators. He pitched two games but maybe his heart wasn’t in it as he did poorly. It is expected that he’ll rejoin his bearded buddies back at the House.
