A short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: The game of baseball is really taking off in Japan. This fellow is one of the big stars there and is becoming a household name. Recently he married a beauty queen. Kaoru Betto, known to fans as “the gentleman of base ball”, didn’t make the Japanese Pacific league until he was 28 years old, partly due to World War II. Right away he made his mark and has hit 43 home runs in a single season. All players together only hit 391 homers that year. Kaoru was born August 23, 1920 and is 5 feet, 11 inches tall. He weighs 165 pounds.
