Adcock, Joe

Biography

From the "This Great Game" card back: Adcock hit the longest recorded home runs in about half of the ballparks in the National League. He was a menacing power hitter, unusually big for his era, a 6-foot-4 southern boy who was country strong. He probably could have been a professional in basketball and football, but he loved to swing the old wagon tongue, and on July 31, 1954, he smacked four homers at Ebbets Field when he went 5-for-5 with 18 total bases.
