Earl AVERILL

Biography

A short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: “Rock” usually hits the ball hard, amassing large quantities of doubles, triples, and homers. On July 1, 1935, he was lighting firecrackers, and one blew up too soon, blasting lacerations in Earl’s hand and face. Luckily for Indians fans, Earl made a full recovery. In 1936 he led the American League with 232 hits and 15 triples, while finishing second in batting average, with .378. Lifetime, he’s hitting above .310, with a slugging percentage over .525. A solid center fielder, Earl played 3 seasons for San Francisco in the Pacific Coast League before being picked up by Cleveland. He lives in Snohomish, Washington.
