The original artwork was painted by Natalia Valiukavich in watercolor. Jack Chesbro was one of the dominant pitchers of the early American League and remains best known for one of the most extraordinary seasons in baseball history. In 1904, pitching for New York, he won 41 games, completed 48 of his 51 starts, and worked 454 2/3 innings, establishing the modern-era single-season victory record. Before joining New York, Chesbro had already been a key pitcher on Pittsburgh pennant winners, and throughout his career he was closely associated with the spitball. He finished with 198 major-league victories and was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1946.
