Card Statistics
This card first sold in 2014. It wasn't until eleven years later that a sharp-eyed collector, Brian Kaufman, noticed that the card title declares Koney with the Brooklyn Tip-Tops. The big first baseman never placed with the Tip-Tops. In 1915 he did participate in the Federal League but appeared with the Pittsburgh Rebels (often called the Stogies). Konetchy loved hist time in the Federal League and hit for the highest average of his career. A portion of Koney's satisfaction may have been that the Rebels were the first winning team that he had ever played with. Often he had played with teams that lost 100 or more games. Only once previously had he appeared with a team that had lost less than 90. The Big Koney finally did make it to Brooklyn at the tail of his career, appearing with the National League Robins in 1919-21. A thanks to Brian for revisiting Koneyville.
